This is an Albuquerque family heirloom tree, which was first planted by my neighbor's mother on a property in downtown Albuquerque around 150 yrs. ago, and was then propagated and moved by him to the South Valley maybe 30 years ago. You can still see remnant suckers from it's original location coming up on an abandoned lot in the downtown neighborhood.

We suspect it is actually the variety called 'Sherwood', but have not completed the genetic testing needed to confirm this. Never the less, it is an incredible variety that made us want to get into the Jujube business in the first place.

Fruits are 1.5-2" long and great for fresh eating or for drying. Flesh of excellent texture, notably dense. Very productive--we have harvested around 100 lbs. of fresh fruit from a single healthy, mature tree. Fruits will keep under refrigeration for a very long time, longer than any of our other varieties. These fruits come in very late in the season for us, so late that this tree is not recommended for northern NM, or high altitude places that have shorter growing seasons. The trees have relatively small thorns, becoming essentially thornless with age.
