Pomegranate, Hotuni Zigar

Hotuni zigar has larger than average fruit, up to 5 inches in diameter and ripens early in the season. The arils are a dark ruby red and quite large making them a great juice cultivar. The juice has a rich and strong sweet-tart berry like flavor, and is somewhat sweeter than ‘Wonderful’, although its large seeds are a little crunchier than the seeds of the ‘Wonderful’ cultivar. The juice is as dark as Concord grape juice. 

This variety was test grown in Russia at the 'Kara-Kala Turkmenistan Experimental Station'. Cuttings were imported to the USA 'by Thompson Southwestern Arboretum' on January 22nd 1999.
